Current Research Projects & Publications

  • University-Community Collaboration on Hearing and Aging

We have several clinical studies being planned in conjunction with the team at the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) and other collaborators.

  • Hearing Care for Older Adults

The lab is currently conducting several studies involving hearing care for older adults. One area aims to investigate consequences for untreated hearing loss. The second area examines the barriers and facilitators to hearing health care for older adults. Much of this work is being conducted together with other health-care professionals.

  • rEDI Software

We have developed software for quantifying changes to the temporal envelope of speech. Available for free download via Flintbox.

(NSERC funded)

  • Effects of acoustic cue redundancy and aging in speech recognition

In this project, we study non-hearing-impaired older and younger adults to determine any difference in how they weight individual and redundant stop consonant cues in recorded speech.

(NSERC funded)

  • Acoustic effects of hearing aid processing

Several studies examine the acoustic effects of hearing aid processing.

Among these studies are:

i) the quantification of noise reduction algorithms on speech and noise;

ii) The use of an inversion technique to separate signals and noise;

iii) The effects of hearing aid processing on stimuli used in electrophysiological measures.
